Well project
Project Well – access to clean water in Tichela
As part of one of our visits to a school in Ticheli, we aimed to conduct workshops on health and hygiene. However, we discovered that children do not have access to one of the basic human rights – drinking water.
In these conditions, it is difficult to talk about maintaining hygiene, such as washing your hands and teeth, when there is no water in the school and children drink water from a nearby lake full of bacteria that cause many serious diseases. The sight of children with bottles filled with muddy liquid caused us deep concern. We decided to organise a fundraiser to build a well to provide students with access to clean drinking water.
Construction of the well in 2020
The well was built in 2020 and provided access to clean drinking water, which not only improved the health of the children in our school, but also benefited the health of the residents of the three surrounding villages, including families, neighbors and friends of the students.
The implementation of this project was a key step in improving the sanitary and health conditions of the entire community, leading to a reduction in the number of illnesses caused by drinking contaminated water and an improvement in the quality of life.
Thank you to everyone who supported us in this endeavor!

Well for students from Ticheli
Magda from the Akra Foundation talks about the difficult situation that children at the School of Talents and Creative Arts in Ticheli face every day. The school, founded by an incredible couple – a Ghanaian and an American – was established with the aim of providing education to the poorest children in the region. Unfortunately, despite the great commitment and support of many people, the students do not have access to clean drinking water. Magda explains that effective education is not possible when children are struggling daily with hunger and diseases caused by the lack of water.
“During one of our visits to the school, we noticed that the children were drinking water from a nearby reservoir. This water is dirty, full of bacteria, and drinking it leads to many serious, sometimes even fatal illnesses. Every day, the children come to school with bottles filled with muddy liquid instead of clean water. In the dry season, the situation is even worse – the reservoir almost completely dries up, and the children are left with only mud to drink. This was shocking to us.
We cannot talk about hygiene, about washing hands or brushing teeth, when there is no access to clean water. That is why we decided to organize a fundraiser to build a well. We believe that, together with our donors, we will be able to make this project happen, and provide the children with access to clean water, which is a basic human right,” says Magda.
With this project, the Akra Foundation aims not only to provide better living conditions for the children but also to impact the entire community, including families, neighbors, and friends of the students. The well can become a key element in improving the sanitary and health conditions, leading to a reduction in the number of illnesses caused by drinking contaminated water. “Children deserve a happy childhood and decent learning conditions,” adds Magda.
Thanks to you – our donors, people of goodwill, and wonderful supporters – we were able to start this key project, which can change the lives of many children in Ticheli for the better. Every bit of help counts, and together we can make the world a better place.
