During the sessions, children and adolescents learn about the traditions, music, art, and daily life of African inhabitants. Through practical activities such as drumming, mask-making, and jewelry creation, the workshops foster the development of tolerance, understanding, and openness to cultural diversity.
It’s a unique opportunity to learn through play and creative activity.

What do Workshops teach?
The Akra Foundation workshops teach participants about the rich African culture, introducing them to the daily lives, traditions and values of the people of Africa. During the classes, children learn African music by playing drums, creating colorful masks and jewelry inspired by African design.
The workshops promote openness, tolerance and respect for cultural diversity, showing how important it is to understand other cultures. Through creative and engaging activities, participants gain knowledge in an interactive and inspiring way.

The basics of playing djembe
Djembe is a traditional drum originating from Africa, most commonly made from wood and goatskin. To get the best sound out of it, the djembe is held between the legs, with a slight deflection to ensure air flow. The basic sounds you can get on it are bass, tone and slap. Each has its own striking technique, and proper bounce of the hand from the membrane is key. Playing the djembe, for example, is not only about learning rhythms, such as “kipi kasha kipi groch,” but also a great way to relax and express yourself through music.
Festival Like the Same – little Wrocław on a journey through Africa
As part of the educational workshops, the Akra Foundation organized an African culture festival “Taky sames – little Wrocławians on a journey through Africa” in the Grabiszyński Park in Wroclaw. During the event, children and young people had the opportunity to immerse themselves in African culture through playing drums, Afro dance and art workshops. The festival, funded by the Municipality of Wrocłau within the framework of the NGO Microgrants program, was aimed at bringing the young people of Wroclaw closer to African traditions and promoting cultural diversity.
